We have reached the end of our inaugural Facility Compliance Think Tank webinar series. The need for the healthcare facility community to come together to discuss and generate ideas as we all work our way through the pandemic makes our educational effort more important than ever. We have been honored to have many of our hospital clients come alongside us as experts to lead in this endeavor. We want to say a huge THANK YOU to all our fall 2020 panelists!

The final topic in our fall “Navigating COVID” series was “Exploring the Pitfalls of Specializing Trades Within the Engineering Department.” I was joined in presenting by Director of Engineering, Adam Zorn at Children’s Mercy Hospital-Kansas City; Director of Facilities Engineering, Scott Amburgey at Parkview Health; and Senior Director of Engineering, Clayton Smith at Children’s Health. They shared some of their experiences on how the model has helped or hurt the efficiency within their department.

With limited resources available, there are current pitfalls with employing specialized trades within engineering departments. This webinar focused on the pros and cons of that staffing model in today’s healthcare workforce and some of the alternatives of specialized trades.

Topics Included:

  • Specific examples of where specialization has hurt the functionality of an engineering department.
  • What specialized trades are currently being utilized within healthcare facilities’ ranks.
  • Advantages of different staffing models.
